International Math & Robot Challenge – 2nd Place
Evidence of Extracurricular Activities that Help Pupils Reach Their Full Potential
Differentiation and scaffolding make tech subjects that can feel “hard” and “rigid” enjoyable and achievable. At the same time, high achievers need stretch and ambition. Academic competitions are one powerful way to differentiate for those learners who thrive on challenge.
In the International Math & Robot Challenge, my Year 9 pupils earned second place. I support students who enjoy competitions while keeping a balanced, inclusive classroom approach. Sharing success stories with peers helps spread resilience, perseverance, and a growth mindset across the group.
Ownership & Independence
Preparing for competition invites pupils to take responsibility for their learning—planning, practicing, and iterating.
They learn to evaluate strategies, reflect on outcomes, and set higher goals for themselves. These experiences don’t just test knowledge;
they help students discover what they’re capable of and inspire them to aim higher.
